Having been sharing all my workshops and trainings

Having been sharing all my workshops and trainings over the last few weeks, you might have been forgiven in wondering what’s going on with my yoga classes?!

Well, I'm glad to tell you that they are all still happening… and though many of them are online, I still catch some interesting comments from my students “oooh, my hip hurts in a Cork accent!!” I’m glad I haven’t totally lost my rebel voice 😂😂

If you’ve been away for a while and feel the call to find space for yourself, to let go of some stress in your body, in your mind, in your breath… and meet yourself “with affection” we would be delighted to welcome you back, bring a friend!

I’ve been considering why I have chosen to work

I’ve been considering why I have chosen to work so closely with the voice… in my own life and now with others. It is something so intimately bound to our own sense of self, our self-expression, our identity, we carry all of our experiences in our bodies and that get expressed, often unconsciously in our voices.
.
For so much of my life, I have had a love hate relationship with my voice, I always loved to sing, to talk and yet I felt my voice wasn’t good enough to ‘perform’ and all my speaking life was veiled by self-judgement and control. My self-expression measured. I would often find myself practicing what I would say in my mind or muttering in my mouth before I would allow myself to speak out loud!! It was like what I felt inside needed to be measured, filtered, altered before I could safely express it, a veil, a separation between inner and outer… can you relate??

Are you interested in becoming a Sound Healing Practitioner? This course is designed for anyone interested in the power of sound to heal, to restore, to relax, to balance. This course is certified by the College of Sound Healing (UK) @collegeofsoundhealing and runs over 5 weekends.
You don't need any previous experience. The course will cover the history, science and most of all the experience of sound. You will receive techniques and modalities for working one to one with clients using sound or adding sound to your existing modality. This training is very experiental and can be a journey for yourself to your own self-healing and development.

It's been a whirlwind of a weekend... poetry, piano, voice, teaching- in person!!..
almost overwhelmed by being with people in that space of connection once again.. and I loved it.. hearing feeling being... sound, stillness, movement. It brought me to tears more than once, I am so grateful!

not saying a word
I’m letting all the voodoos of ambition sleep.

The world goes on as it must,
the bees in the garden rumbling a little,
the fish leaping, the gnats getting eaten.

When despair for the world grows in me and I wake

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.

I hear so often from people how they believe they'

I hear so often from people how they believe they're not the right shape for yoga, don't have the flexibility, too young, too old etc.. and ALL OF THAT is missing the point of this ancient practice. So much of our exposure to yoga is in the perfect, young bodies making shapes that only years of dedicated physical practice can attain. So many of us will never be that yogi, nor do we ever need or wish to be... that is not the essence nor the real power of yoga for most of human kind.

Yoga isn't really any of that, yoga is about meeting yourself where you are, learning to know who you are and discovering self-acceptance and self-love. Yoga is coming into the present moment, what's going on in your mind, in your breath, in your body... right now. And that tuning in to you. That becoming present, has the effect of calming the mind, meeting the body where it's at and releasing tension held there. The nervous system may let go it's guard enough to let the mind relax, the body open and the breath to move.

My yoga practice has changed so much over the years and I have now come to the believe and understanding that what serves us best is to slow down and feel what's happening right here and the best way to experience that is in gentle, mindful movements, awareness and breath practices and lots of rest!!
